Tamsin Greenway looks at how to maximise Premier League netballPCMAX

Having discussions about them, debating them and highlighting the crucial topics of netball is something which Tamsin Greenway feels strongly about. This week, she looks at how it may evolve for the better and Premier League Netball’s topic.
Last month the conversation about the competition opened on social media and was met with a dialog that engaged club members and lovers alike and a wealth of responses.
There’s lots of interest but is your rivalry being maximised?
Since the 2006-07 season and a third branch came in 2010 Premier League Netball’s top branches are operating. It’s the highest degree of club netball supporting Superleague and teams need to come through federal, regional and county pathways to choose one of the 30 areas.
Greenway knows the Premier League nicely having played for any variety of clubs within it.
“It was brought to my attention from folks that I know that are intensely involved in nightclubs and in the setup and I believe they were only feeling a tiny bit left out of the loop,” said Greenway.
“I’ve been quite vocal about it for quite a while, if Superleague is the top competition in the nation and you do not have any relegation from it as such (at least not every season) then we will have to check at what other theatres and what rivals are occurring to make sure that we’re producing players and that they’re getting the best chances to compete.”
The competition is a national one and also the season spans from September to March, If it comes to Premier League netball in its current shape.
“it is a great contest, I suppose the battle for me personally is that it happens on Sundays and it is all around the country.
“You might wind up playing games in Norwich, Jersey or Newcastle and I actually discovered that the devotion to Superleague had been a lot less.
“Once I ceased playing Superleague I’d have enjoyed to have carried on playing in something like a Prem competition however, for me personally commitment [geography and time ] with owning a household was so challenging.
“I think that would have been so useful for the kids coming through. If a number of the Superleague players played playing Prem and helped bring throughout the young players coming 23, imagine? You’d have this wonderful transition”
Greenway considers Premier League netball must get its own identity and its own space. The competition is steeped in history and with some crucial amendments working strongly for the broader image of elite netball at England in addition to could have that identity.
“When we look at the Signing Window, Superleague teams do not really have to name their squads before January so we’ve got four or five months speculating about who’s going where…”
“There are a lot of talking points around it. We might be talking about a fresh young woman that Surrey Storm have just signed and since she’s playing in Prem and we could have the discussion about her and see her firsthand”
Greenway is well-aware that the situation is different by club and that perspectives differ on Prem situation and whether it has to alter or not.
It’s apparent that having and that assists’feed’ talent is vital. Talent from a point of view but also from the view of helping boost the top-level resources of the sport in terms of umpires and coaches.
From understanding people involved in Prem, that there are components to a trainer’s role there, greenway knows.
For instance, not with players in training each week, coming against sides which have their players arrive late on or having their Superleague players offered for just two quarters is forced in that respect.
All of these don’t help a Prem coach develop the aspects they need to be prepared to step into a Superleague training role.
League netball are two elements – geography and timing.
Centralising would help with gamers’ involvement alongside bringing umpiring programmes and developing training hubs. It would also make a focal point to segregate commercial components on. Throughout these ideas, the discussion of Superleague players into Prem needs to remain but should be fulfilled on a case by case basis.
With any discussion of change heads turn into that is something which Greenway has her own views on and what’s occurring from the Southern Hemisphere.
“If we have got this great league that operates with so many volunteers so many people that have been doing it for such a very long time. I think that it’s about time that we made these guys feel a part of it.
“I have talked a lot about the fact we are aware that there are hundreds of thousands of women playing netball each week and yet, not a lot come to see the elite game. Imagine if they felt a part of it? They may do this.
“If you’ve got a set of girls which are off on a Sunday for seven months of the year [playing Prem] then they’re most likely not likely to pay their Saturday forthcoming to watch a Superleague match.
“They just might if there had been a tie ? And, if they only played for four months of the year and another four months they had been seeing Superleague and bringing along.
“I believe that there are a few tweaks that we’re able to do and that does not mean introducing a new feeder contest for Superleague. Instead, it’s about looking at what’s working really well and just how do we change and adjust this to make it even better?
“We still give individuals the option of what they’re doing in the minute but we also take that second step to make sure that we’re receiving the best performance from these players, coaches and umpires.”
