Game time will be given by new Zealand head coach Steve Hansen to many under-worked members of the Rugby World Cup team if the All Blacks face Tonga in their game in Hamilton on Saturday.
Hansen has made many changes to the line-up that beat against Australia 36-0 at the Bledisloe Cup Test, notably transferring Beauden Barrett from full-back at the absence to his position at fly-half.
Veteran Ben Smith, in is 80th Evaluation, contributes to his position at full-back afterwards playing on the perfect wing to permit Mo’unga and Barrett to feature as double playmakers.
Hooker Codie Taylor, flanker Matt Todd and scrumhalf T.J. Perenara, that normally start on the bench, are encouraged to the beginning 15 while Liam Coltman, the next hooker in the squad, and rookie back rower Luke Jacobson are named as reserves.
Though he’s not a member of Hansen World Cup squad uncapped fly-half Josh Ioane can be on the bench.
“It is great to get the squad together and get started preparing for what will likely be a great game against Tonga,” Hansen explained. “We all know that the Rugby World Cup is just around the corner but we’re focusing on’right here, right now.’
“Tonga will soon be targeting this game in a bid to construct momentum into their Rugby World Cup campaign, and so are we, as it is going to become important for both groups to head into the championship with confidence.”
Siua Maile, who had been working prior to his choice for the Tonga group will make his Test debut.
playing at inside centre former Wallaby Cooper Vuna will begin on the wing.
