Marcus Maddison interview: Peterborough forward on assists, social media criticism and his futurePCMAX

Marcus Maddison record for Peterborough over the past six seasons was next to none.
True, that’s often a hastily-attributed idiom, however, for its 25-year-old, mercifully, it is a fact; because the start of the 2014/15 year, his astounding tally of 71 team aids is 18 more than any other participant at the top four tiers of English football.
If this was not enough, then his 119 target involvements in that time place him close to the esteemed company of Tottenham’s Harry Kane (144) and also Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero (147).
“It is probably just understanding where the ball must proceed,” he modestly told Sky Sports ahead of Posh’s trip to Tranmere on Tuesday evening.
“I am relying on my team-mates to know where I will place the ball. It’s not about looking where they are, it is about putting the ball in. It’s about game understanding.”
Capable of playing anywhere across the frontline has, almost exclusively, been set up as a No 10 this term along with boss Darren Ferguson is currently reaping the rewards as a result of the alteration.
The statistics develop more notable with the week: Maddison has scored five goals and also laid on a six assists, assisting his staff – who have won four without conceding – up into sixth in the table, three behind leaders Coventry.
However, to get a player who returned for pre-season training weeks after than his team-mates what has sparked the start that resulted past week in him being named League One Player of the Month?
He continued:”I’ve had a good deal of catching up to do. I came back to training much later than all the boys – potentially afterwards. However, I think it’s the supervisor who has cared for me, and the belief in of my team-mates. I have worked to keep myself in shape and I think I am just living my own life right.
“it is a very long season. We had an August that is OK. We started off a bit rusty, things clicked and then we’ve scored 11 goals rather than conceded (since risen to 17 in most competitions), things are going nicely. If we get complacent, it can return to getting defeats. I believe we’ve only got to keep our foot on the gas and continue.
“I would really like to find advertising. I have been here a very long time and we’ve failed each year, probably sadly. As well we had been on the outskirts last year. I’d like to acquire a promotion. I’ve got a few individual trophies but it’s tough to not do it with the team.”
But as they say, success breeds contempt.
On the weekend of August, boyhood Sunderland fan Maddison scored two goals in a win on the Black Cats in the ABAX Stadium, the first of which had been a gorgeous 30-yard free-kick.
A night out in the Red Room bar of Peterborough followed though many members of the public contacted club chairman Darragh MacAnthony via Twitter to notify him of their participant’s presence, accusing him of behavior from the process.
However, MacAnthony claimed he’d asked the venue to send him the invoice to allow him to settle it from his pocket, and also hit in defence of his prized asset.
“Yesit was really good to score against my boyhood club” Maddison states. “It’s not disheartening at all. The public are right down to say the things that they have to state. Should I go out and enjoy myself after a great outcome, or I go out any time and revel in myself, I’m sure individuals have something to say.
“Because we are public figures, they think that it’s OK to go and tell other men and women. I am glad the chairman understood what I do and had my spine. We’ve got a really good relationship and I think that is why I’m here six years on now, still doing what I’m doing, because me and him get on so nicely ”
Having said that, it remains to be seen just how long he’ll remain in Cambridgeshire. Of course, always reaching the heights that the Durham-born forward has done over the last couple of years has drawn interest from across the EFL. For at least a year, by the way, Sunderland are linked with a shift, this summer while Hull displayed an interest.
The simple fact of the matter is, as they have been, if matters remain, Maddison’s contract will expire in the summer, leaving him free to signal a pre-contract agreement. But a calm exterior is maintained by him as he addresses the current speculation.
“Of courseyou hear picture annually:”This individual’s accountable for you” or even”you could be going here”I think you have only got to keep your head down. I am getting a phone call saying I am going somewhere and unless something happens, I’m contracted to this football club and I have got to give my all for this soccer team.
“It would be great to test at a Championship clubwhether that’s Peterborough or somewhere else, but that is not down to me, that is for other supervisors, other supervisors to produce the choice, pay the cash and get me . However, as of today, I am in Peterborough United and I will continue to do exactly what I do.”
