It is semi-final day in the ATP Tour Finals and together with the big names topping the 2 groups, our tennis columnist Dan Weston is back with his views on whether either will be defeated today…
Djokovic and Zverev back into action
After straight-set victories for Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic yesterday in London, the duo qualified for the semi-finals, with the unbeaten Djokovic winning the team and confronting Kevin Anderson this evening. Second-place Zverev faces Hewitt Group winner Roger Federer, in the opening semi-final of today.
Prior to discussing the two matches separately, it is worth noting that both Federer and Anderson have experienced an extra rest day, though neither of the opponents today had a specially arduous final group match yesterday, both concluding their matches in about an hour and a half
Federer with a statistical advantage over Zverev
Before 14:00 UK time, Federer faces Zverev, and the Exchange marketplace has the Swiss man priced accurately at 1.41 to create the closing – a cost my version agreed with completely.
Inside this year, there is little comparison between the two players, statistically. Federer has won 70.8percent of service factors, and 41.5percent on return. This unites to 112.3%, a figure that is undoubtedly elite level, also, is a figure far in excess of what the German could boast.
Zverev is down at 103.0% (63.4% service points gained, 39.6% on yield ) – a joint figure which isn’t even top 10 flat – and with this large capacity gap on the surface exhibited with these amounts, it is clear that Federer needs to be a good favorite with this clash.
